  • 1995 – Rugby union becomes a professional sport for the first time, allowing players to be paid to play.

A competitive rugby union match is played on a large cubical grassy field or artificial turf. The length of the pitch must be 100 m (109 yards) long between the two try lines and the range of the pitch should be roughly 70 m.
